Gal Meets Glam Eiffel Tower Views

I came across this on Tumblr the other day and it made me stop and think.

This got me thinking… how many times have we said “we should catch up some time!” to someone we would actually love to sit and chat with, and then never called the person? Or said, “I’ve been meaning to do that, I just haven’t gotten around to it.” There are so many things that we truly want to do that we put on the back burner instead of making happen. We all have it in our heads that we have plenty of time, but why should we wait to make time for the things that we truly want to do? If we want to live our fullest, most enjoyable lives, we need to prioritize those things that we’ve been meaning to do and do them now.

Sometimes we need a little reminder that things will only happen if we make them happen. It is up to us to take charge of our lives and commit to the things we want. What is it that you’ve been meaning to do that you can follow through with?

  • Start reading that book that has been sitting on your nightstand for weeks.
  • Pop some popcorn, get comfy, and actually watch the movies in your Netflix queue.
  • Call the friend you’ve been meaning to get together with and schedule a time to meet up for coffee.
  • Clean out your closet and purge the things you don’t need like you’ve been meaning to. Or your kitchen, or living room, or any other space in your home that you’ve been meaning to give attention to.
  • Commit to the healthy lifestyle/eating plan/fitness regime that you know you need to do in order to be your best self. Been meaning to cut way down on sugar or commit to a regular fitness schedule? Now is the time.
  • Start saving money for that item that is a little out of your price range but that you’ve always wished you could buy. A new laptop, camera, nicer apartment, better car… whatever it is. If you have an end goal in mind, it is much easier to save up your money and make it happen.
  • Start researching for that trip you’ve always dreamed of taking. Realistically look up the cost of plane tickets and lodging and write down what you would need to do to make it happen. Maybe make a plan with another person to take the trip with you in a few months so you are more likely to stick to your goal, keep saving, and follow through.
  • Stop and think for a second. Is there anything that you’ve always wanted to do or be? Maybe you’ve always wanted to become a certified yoga instructor, or write a novel and try to get it published, or go to culinary school and start your own bakery. We all have dreams that we have pushed aside due to reality, but I want you to bring those ambitions to the forefront of your brain and toy with them. Do you still want those things? If you do, why haven’t you made them happen? Why don’t you do it now? Grab a piece of paper and make a brainstormed list of steps you could take to make those lofty dreams actually happen. Once written down, they may not seem so lofty anymore.

Most of all, this quote reminded me how important it is to stop waiting around to do the things you’ve been meaning to do. Commit to the life you want and make them happen now.
