Get to Know Me! 50 Random Facts about the Girl Behind the Blog

I’ve had this blog for a while now, but I feel like I have been hesitant to put myself out there personally. I have no problem writing articles about how to improve your life or your health, but writing about myself or my own life introduces a whole new level of vulnerability.

Anyways, I think the reason that a lot of blogs become popular is because we relate to the human being behind the blog. We feel like we almost know them. And we want to keep updated on what they’ve been doing and if they have any advice or experience that might be relevant to us.

So with that in mind, I wanted to put myself out there a little bit more. I’m not quite ready for a youtube video (although I’m cautiously pondering the idea…) but I do want to give you guys a little peek at the person behind Down to Earth Dreamer. Here we go!

  1. I hate pictures of myself laughing, so naturally that’s why I put one as the header of this post.
  2. I am very shy. I’ve always felt misunderstood as being snobby or difficult to talk to simply because I get socially anxious and find it difficult to know what to say. And if it’s a large group, forget it! I’ll be happily standing against the wall paralyzed with fear.
  3. I like to go to bed early… like 9:30 to 10:00 p.m. Usually I get into my pajamas and read in bed for a while before actually sleeping, but still I love to be in bed early. My boyfriend likes to tease me about this old-ladyish quality.
  4. On that note, I have never been a big partier. I like to go out every once in a while, but a good night out will satisfy me for like a month.
  5. I have been dating my boyfriend Garrett for over two years now. Prior to this relationship, I dated another guy… named Garrett. This made for an easy transition…. no fear about saying the wrong name!IMG_9098
  6. In high school I was known as being pretty quiet and introverted, but when it came to sports, I could dominate on the volleyball court. Just sayin.
  7. I love yoga and do it several times a week, but when I first tried it back in my senior year of high school, I hated it. I really wanted to like it, so I kept doing it, but I remember feeling like I couldn’t breathe during child’s pose, and downward facing dog was all sorts of uncomfortable. Now, one of my goals is to get my yoga teaching certification.
  8. I thrive on light. I literally cannot stand it when I’m inside a dark house… it just makes me feel gross. When I look for my next apartment, my most important criteria is huge freaking windows.
  9. I love to dance, and during high school I helped choreograph and perform a rendition of “Baby Got Back” in front of the high school students and their families.
  10. I have to have the bed made every day or else I feel like my life is falling apart. And my boyfriend could not care less about a made bed.. I think he’s made it once during the entire time we’ve lived together. Oh and he hates throw pillows and tries to say I can’t have them.
  11. I love to lift weights. I’m not talking about the little pink dumbbells, but actual squats, deadlifts, bench press, etc. It surprises a lot of people that a 5’3, 125 lb girly-girl enjoys pumping some serious iron, but I do. It makes me feel empowered and confident.
  12. I am happiest when holding a cup of coffee. photo
  13. I always wanted to learn how to be a barista when I was younger (all of those intimidating sounds the espresso machine makes with all of that steam looked so cool). Turns out, it’s more a matter of showing up really early, making coffee in a daze, and forcing a smile to rude customers. What a dream come true! Haha just kidding, most days it’s not so bad.
  14. The reason I work at a coffee shop is because my boyfriend’s parents own it, so it gives us a steady stream of income while still being really flexible. I’ve worked here for the past two summers and through this last winter.
  15. I grew up in a small tourist town in Idaho and worked scooping ice cream at a very popular ice cream shop for five summers in a row. I think this is why my right arm is still stronger than my left.
  16. One pet peeve of mine is when I stop to let pedestrians cross the street and they suddenly waddle at snail’s speed with no care in the world. UGH.
  17. I often take mirror selfies to send to my mom to make sure my outfit looks okay.IMG_0038
  18. I studied marketing in college, but if I hadn’t followed that path, I would have chosen nutrition. I am fascinated by the impacts of food on the body. A significant reason why I didn’t choose this major was because for one class, you had to look at cadavers, and that really freaks me out.
  19. Also blood, needles, hospitals… anything remotely medical makes me feel anxious and queasy. I hate the feeling of having my blood pressure taken during a check up, and even sitting in the waiting room of a doctor’s office gets me all sorts of worked up.
  20. I had braces for several years growing up. I still look like I’m about 14 when I wear my retainer.
  21. Oh yeah, I look really young for my age. I am 23, but I constantly get asked if I’m still in high school or if I’m going to go to college. I love saying, “Actually I already have a degree!”, with a hint of smugness. And I’ll probably get carded buying alcohol until I’m like 40.
  22. I have two younger sisters. IMG_3773photo
  23. My two favorite TV shows are Friends and Gilmore Girls. I basically just alternate between these two shows because nothing else lives up to them in my mind.
  24. I get really scary when I’m hungry. I’ll admit it. The first thing Garrett asks when I’m being less than pleasant is “Are you hungry?”
  25. I’ve always preferred vanilla over chocolate when it comes to cake, ice cream, whatever. I know, I’m weird.
  26. I rarely wear anything besides jeans and a T-shirt. Maybe this is because I grew up in Idaho and you got stared at and questioned if you wore anything moderately dressy. “Wow, you’re all dressed up! Where are you going!?”
  27. I like my brown eyes. Even though when I was younger kids teased me about brown eyes being the color of poop. Harsh.269989_1629692921175_7028681_n
  28. When I was little I wanted to be a singer when I grew up. I’m not sure how I planned to make this happen, because I can’t sing in front of anyone. I don’t think my voice is bad either, I’m just terrified of it!
  29. I am passionate about nutrition and eating real, whole foods. But I have a special place for french toast. And pumpkin muffins. And cheesecake. And cheesecake ice cream. And I never plan to give these things up, because I intend to enjoy my life!
  30. I also love green smoothies. I think they’re delicious, and I swear I could convert any veggie-hater with a good green smoothie.
  31. I think deformed foods are hilarious. A while ago my sister sent me a picture of “carrot pants” (a carrot shaped like pants) and I died laughing. Then when we found this “inappropriate carrot” at work, I couldn’t wait to send it to her. IMG_0607
  32. I have had straight A’s my entire life and graduated college Summa Cum Laude. And yes, people hate me for it.
  33. I have a huge crush on Brad Pitt even though I know he is old enough to be my dad. #creepy
  34. Pink is probably my favorite color, but I’m a bit embarrassed to admit this because it makes me feel like a Barbie. Or Elle Woods.
  35. My mom and I claim to enjoy shopping, but we last about one store before we decide it’s time to go and get coffee. I think in our heads, we equate “shopping” with “coffee.”IMG_0250
  36. My favorite movie as a kid was The Lion King, but my parents always had to fast-forward the part where the dad dies (spoiler alert). I still hate sad movies!
  37. My socks always have to match.
  38. I have really small feet. Size 6 1/2. My college roommate/best friend had the same size feet, and we had 3 pairs of literally the exact same shoes. It was weird.IMG_0154
  39. My favorite part about getting home at the end of a long day is taking off my bra. And flinging it across the room if I’m feeling extra sassy.
  40. I hate the word moist. And I think this scene in “A Cinderella Story” started it all.
  41. I have to wash my hair every single day. And yes, I know you’re not supposed to.
  42. I have a degree in marketing, but I hate being marketed to. I unsubscribe from all marketing e-mails, I don’t like commercials, and I really hate being sold to.
  43. I have been told I look like a range of celebrities… Jessica Alba and Natalie Portman (I’ll take it), Keira Knightly and Christina Ricci (Hmm.. Not sure how I feel about these). Apparently customers at the coffee shop think it’s necessary to decide which celebrity I look like and inform me in front of everyone.
  44. My first ever CD was the Backstreet Boys “Millenium.” I was in love with Nick Carter.
